The short version
Timbre Match is an ad-free listening game that does not require an account today. It runs in your browser, uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate traffic, and may collect optional quick feedback plus sparse game/product events when collection is enabled on the public site. We do not upload audio recordings, MIDI device identity, a full slider-movement stream, or every sound you make.
What stays on your device
Timbre Match generates and plays sounds in your browser. Playground sounds, Match targets, Describe answers, slider positions, and round state are not uploaded as audio recordings. Browser storage may hold local preferences, a random pseudonymous session ID, one-shot event suppression flags, campaign fields, quick-feedback dismissal state, and guided tutorial seen flags.
Browser storage
We use localStorage and sessionStorage for local app state and analytics support. That can include a pseudonymous random session ID, UTM campaign fields, dismissed prompts, and flags that prevent duplicate first-wave events or keep first-run tutorials from reopening after you finish or skip them. If you submit feedback or an allowed event is collected when collection is enabled, the session ID and relevant campaign fields may be sent with the payload.
Hosting and Cloudflare
Timbre Match is served by Cloudflare. Like any content delivery network, Cloudflare may transiently process request metadata such as IP address and browser user-agent to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Feedback and product-event data, when enabled, is handled by our Cloudflare-hosted collector.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic, such as visits, pages, referrers, and approximate location. It is cookieless, does not track you across other sites, and reports aggregate numbers rather than building an identity profile. You can read more in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Sparse game events
When collection is enabled on the public site, Timbre Match may send a small set of meaningful product events: app loaded, game started, target played, your sound played, first slider changed, attempt submitted, round finished, and quick feedback opened or submitted. We do not send every slider move, every playback, hidden answer keys, target slider coordinates, random seeds, or audio recordings. Our retention policy is to remove raw product events after 12 months.
Quick feedback
If you use quick feedback, we may store the rating, selected tags, optional short message, page or game context, and the analytics fields described above. Free-text feedback is optional and may accidentally contain personal information if you type it, so please do not include anything sensitive. We use feedback to improve Timbre Match and may keep submitted comments while they remain useful for that purpose.
Accounts, ads, and recordings
Timbre Match does not require an account today, has no ad network, and has no cross-site ad tracking. We do not ask for your name or email in the current app. We do not upload, store, or share recordings of the sounds generated in your browser.
Voluntary contributions
Timbre Match is free to play. If you choose to make a voluntary contribution, the contribution link takes you to a payment page hosted by Stripe, our payment processor. Payment happens entirely on Stripe's page: Timbre Match never sees or receives your card details, and the link loads no Stripe script or cookie inside Timbre Match. Stripe handles your payment information under its own privacy policy. Contributing is optional and unlocks nothing.
Where information is processed
Some providers we rely on are based outside Australia. Cloudflare provides hosting, Web Analytics, and feedback/event processing, and Stripe processes voluntary contributions; they may process the limited information described here in the United States or other countries. We only share what is necessary for those services to work.
Your choices
You can use Timbre Match without an account, ads, or cross-site tracking. You can dismiss quick feedback and clear browser storage at any time by clearing site data for Timbre Match in your browser. If you included identifiable information in free-text feedback and want it deleted, contact us through the contact form.
Questions or complaints
Timbre Match is built and operated by Arpeggiator. For privacy questions, reach us through the contact form. If you are in Australia and are not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Timbre Match after a change means you accept the updated policy.
